Cheap and Easy Homemade Gift Bags
Gift bags always look classier and prettier than ordinary gift wrapping paper, and with a simple technique you can make cheap and easy homemade gift bags out of department store bags. It’s just a matter of creatively disguising the store logos, replacing the string handles with ribbons, and choosing crepe paper to match your charming homemade gift bag. It’s a fun project that takes a few minute and hardly any work at all. Here’s how I make my cheap and easy homemade gift bags for every occasion. 1. Choose the Perfect Palettes for Your vans shoes Homemade Gift Bags
Not every department store bag can be converted into a homemade gift bag. Ideally, the bag will have a glossy finish to it that comes with high quality materials. You won’t find such elegant bags at Wal Mart or Costco, but you will get them for free at the mall in almost every store. Even if you’re buying a gift, which the store will wrap for you for free, be sure to ask them to put the wrapped gift in one of their store bags. Then you can turn the store bag into a cheap and easy homemade gift bag for another gift entirely.
If you don’t want the gift recipient to suspect where the beautiful homemade gift bag came from, be sure to find all the store logos. There’s always ones on the front and back of the bag, but many stores also include a logo on the folding sides of the bags. In addition, logos may be hidden inside the bag, on the top lip, or even under the bag. When making your cheap and easy homemade gift bag you can’t afford to miss any of the logos, or your secret will be out.
3. Cover the Store Logos on the Front
You can really cover up the store logos with anything, like cut up wrapping paper, old calendar images, greeting card pictures, or anything else that strikes your fancy. I like to use small office sticky note paper. It comes in a range of colors and the small squares are perfect for homemade gift bags. I simply dab a little craft glue on the back of each sticky note to supplement the already sticky top. Then I adh vans shoes ere the paper over the logo at an angle. To give my homemade gift bags a little flare, I alternate the colors of the sticky notes as I fill out a complete line that will cover up the store logo from end to end. Don’t worry if the sticky note looks wrinkled and wet with glue at first. After the glue dries, the paper will blend flawlessly with your homemade gift bag.
4. Cover the Store Logos on the Sides
I like to use the same materials to cover up the side logos, so as to give my homemade gift bag a harmonious feel. But I alternate the pattern of colors, just for fun. And I make sure the sticky notes fold along the original folding lines of the bag, so they remain in place even when the bag closes a bit.
5. Cover the Store Logos Inside and Under the Bag
The logos on the inner lip of the bag (as well as those on the underside) are small and narrow. Creating a sticky note pattern here will look as natural as sticking a mustache on my forehead. Instead, I like to stick a ribbon over the logo. I make sure that I use the same ribbon again when I replace the homemade gift bag handles.
6. Switch the Handles
In many cases the ribbon handles that come with department store bags are really lovely. If you can find a matching ribbon that can be used to cover up the inner logo, then by all means keep the original handles. Otherwise, buy a silk ribbon roll at a craft store and replace the handles to give your homemade gift bag a unique appeal.
7. Crepe Paper to match Your Homemade Gift Bag
I like to use crepe paper that matches the color of my sticky notes. You can find it at craft stores, Hallmark stores or even supermarkets. The repetition of the color inside vans shoes the bag really creates the impression that the homemade gift bag was designed with the sticky note additions on purpose. I then tie the crepe paper with the same ribbon I used for the handles and complete my perfect homemade gift bag.
